Re-post- SURPRISE by SeafoamIslander Re-post- SURPRISE by SeafoamIslander
Old artwork that I had once posted but deleted.

Inspired from the amazing fan-novel "Village Guardians" written by a gifted Pokemon novelist-- Dr. Mack Foxx

In fact, this is one of the characters of his story--Gremlin the Sableye.
He first hopped into a ballet class to learn ballet, and scared many Kirlias,
but then, he got to become a ballet instructor in the Gardevoir Region--Gardev.

This drawing is entered in the 2nd Annual Gardevoir's Sanctuary Fan-Art Contest :icongardevoirs-sanctuary: in the following Category: The Doctor's Challenge.

The above drawing is based on this scene from the story "The Village Guardians Anthology: Chapter #3- The Lost Love"

...While the Kirlias continued to dance under the watchful eyes of their instructors, they were all completely unaware of the being, hiding in the darkest corner of the room. It was watching the Kirlias and two Gardevoirs attentively, waiting for the right moment to strike. There was maybe a minute left of the song being played on the record player.

“Well,” thought the hidden creature, “It’s now or never…” Without warning, the small, black figure jumped out of the shadows and right into the very middle of the dance floor. The male Kirlias yelled with fright while the female Kirlias screamed out of sheer terror. George and Joyce were absolutely stunned at the scene unfolding before them as the students huddled near the two Gardevoirs for protection. None of the dancers knew what to make of the grinning Sableye that stood before them, wearing all the traditional Kirlia ballet attire. The music continued to play and it only took a few moments for George to realize what was happening.

“Oh, no!” thought George with a heavy sigh, “It’s that same Sableye from last week! What’s he doing here?!” Joyce stared at her mate with a look of utter bewilderment on her face while she read George’s thoughts.

“Do you know who this is?” asked a thoroughly confused Joyce via telepathy. George nodded.

“His name is Gremlin,” grumbled George telepathically, “He seemed so interested in our ballet classes, but I never imagined that he would dare crash a session like this!”

“Are you sure?” asked Joyce with surprise, her soft gaze falling upon the seemingly-deranged Sableye, “Take a good look at him, George! I think… I think he’s actually dancing!”...

I'm really sick of deleting and then having a hard time finding old artwork. Not to mention most are lost.

I'm even more sick of the whole thing about SOME christians call Pokemon evil because of psychic or ghosts or whatever stuff.
You know what? Although Pokemon does contain psychic, Pokemon players were never told to perform psychic of any sort. It does NOT tell you how to do psychic.
So I don't think that Pokemon psychic is going to affect too much people.

Well, ok.
I might be called to leave Pokemon in the near future,
be it religious reasons, academic reasons, or age reasons...etc
Well, surely some time I'm going to completely leave, so does everyone else. Not a lot of people can play Pokemon their whole life, right??

But I am NOT going to delete my artwork!!
No! I refuse to delete any of my artwork anymore!!

I could just leave the account lying around, you know.
If I'm called to leave, I just don't have to visit this account.

Fed up with the whole leaving and returning constant battle I was having since 2006--3 years already!

Wow, thank you very much for posting all these details!
It must have costed you a lot of time ^^"
I wanted to be precise and fair with all my scoring. It took several hours to judge all of the entries and, in many cases, grading was quite difficult. Of course, I wanted to make sure I did my best. :)
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2010
Indeed, you had been fair with the scoring. :)
Thanks for all your works to provide fun for Gardevoir fans :)
I'm glad you think so. :)

You are very welcome and thank you as well. ^_^

It's always emphasized that psychic pokemon were strong blah blah blah
But before Ralts/ Kirlia/ Gardevoir,
most Psychic Pokemon look freaky XD

Ah yes, one of Gremlin's finer moments. Glad to see this up again, as it's my favorite fanart of one of my favorite characters. Nicely done.

I can understand your frustration, I once lost almost my entire collection of cards over a "pocket demons" something or other that my mom read online. I have since rebuilt my collection (she doesn't keep her mind made up). I don't see me giving up on pokemon anytime soon, but maybe I'm just being childish, though my best writing ideas come of such thinking. People who call themselves Christians need to remember that there is a huge difference between real life and fantasy. Sorry to have turned my comment into a rant.

This is a beautifully drawn picture, with great coloring. I only hope one day that my coloring skills can be as yours.

Thanks for your reply.

So I am not alone, I had my entire Pokemon books collection burned during a barbeque because of the "Pocket Demons" thing.
Christians need to experience God themselves, rather than to listen to other Christians. The main focus is to God, not to other Christians because all of us are not perfect.

Not everyone who play Pokemon are childish.
When I first entered University, I was shocked about how many people play Pokemon in my University.
I was studying a veterinary medicine degree which I didn't like, and then I withdrew my degree.
I am now studying another degree in another University, and I am in year 1 again, and I see, this University has a lot of Pokemon players also.
People were scared to play Pokemon in High School/ Secondary school because some others criticize them as being childish.
But they are doing so to prove that they are not childish, whilst they are the real immature ones.

Now that people don't fear of being bullied because of Pokemon, there are a lot of people playing Pokemon in Universities.

Colouring skills is highly dependent on the programme you use :)
I use the program openCanvas which is my all-time favourite drawing program.

Yeah, a fair amount of people do play card games of all types in college. Heh, you should have seen me in high school, modifying stats and rules of pokemon to use them against a friend who played only YuGiOh. One day a kid asked me that if he gave me a deck, would I "stop this madness". I agreed and recieved a rather decent YuGiOh deck that I later traded for more pokemon (The irony still amuses me).

Oh, so you do primarily digital art. How did I not catch that... I mainly use graphite, but used to be pretty good with pastels. I'm looking at picking up some colored pencils for my color jobs. Maybe I'll take up digital when I can get a drawing pad, until then drawing with a mouse just doesn't suit me, too awkward for me. Well, got a lot to do today. Have a great weekend.
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2009
Actually, I am left-handed whilst all drawings in this account is drawn with my right hand, with a shaky mouse.
(apart from the pencil sketch "Gardevoir Queen" which is drawn using left hand, since that's a pencil sketch)

So digital arts is not that difficult really.
You just keep undo-ing lines you don't like.
Even when you find a line unacceptable, you just move it or re-shape it.

I never get paper drawings good enough, at least for my own standard.
The harsh thing about paper drawings is that, after you create a pencil sketch, you need to ink the lines once more, in order to make it visible in a scanner.
And the thing I really hate inking is that inking takes longer than my pencil sketch.
Not to mention that after colouring, the scanners never show the shades correctly.
Never did like using colour pencils neither, my hands get really tired, and the colours don't seem to come out. (I need to press the pencil harder, but I'm just too weak to do it)

Pastels may work better for me, but usually my drawings are very small.
Not a lot of my drawings of Gardevoirs exceed 5 inches when drawn on paper.

I now have a drawing pad, which I had never used in this account.
I plan to use it for future Village Guardian scenes so I can capture the emotion expressions better.
Drawing with a dominant hand DOES differ from drawing with another hand.

I might consider re-lining the Gardevoir Queen digitally,
but once again, I do not enjoy re-lining at all.
Aaraboga-Jones Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2009  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I see. Yeah... I actually never really do any inking... at all.
I will, however admit that I hate going back and reworking prior arts of mine. The ones that really need it are so because they deteriorated over time. (lost some really nice graphite drawings to sketchbook page friction. I'm right-handed, but I did once try to teach myself to write with my left (it was HORRIBLE). I'll be looking forward to your next submissions.

Until next time,
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2009
Me too, I hate reworking on prior arts as well.

I can't write with my right hand...
but I somehow can draw with my right hand.
I also hold saws and knives with my right hand, and chopsticks too. (because it's rude to hold chopsticks with left hand)

Maybe I'm somewhere between left-handed and both-handed.
Aaraboga-Jones Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2009  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Yeah, I can understand that.
I'm right-handed, so my right hand is the one that is most coordinated or skilled, but it also is the weaker hand.
I didn't know it was rude to hold chopsticks with the left. I guess in that case, it's a good thing I am unable to (Someday I'll be able to hold them correctly with my right hand).

So you're almost, but not quite, ambidextrous? That's pretty neat.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your day.

Until the next,
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 24, 2009
Maybe I am both handed...I'm wondering about that too.

My parents had that old fashioned impression that everyone is either right handed or left handed, and they wondered if I had "chose the wrong hand".
And they kept telling me that I probably had chose the wrong hand.
I didn't hear about the idea of "both handed" until I get to study in the UK.

I tried to write English with my right hand yesterday because my left hand was aching from volley ball.
The writing turned out to be ok,
but I did it very slowly.
It won't be fast enough for note-taking, but I'll see if I can train it up :)

Oh yes, some people think that holding chopsticks with left hand is rude, because when someone is sitting next to you, the 2 pairs of chopsticks will "fight". (May collide with each other)
Since in Chinese restaurants, tables are round, (or are meant to be round...I'm surprised that in the UK, they have square tables in Chinese restaurants, I suppose they have square tables in USA too.) so you are almost certain that there must be someone sitting next to you on both sides.

But maybe it doesn't matter in Japanese restaurants. I never did see a round table out of the hundreds of Japanese restaurants I went to. (I love Japanese food, haha ^^)

Best Regards,

great to see you found it, still looks humorous and it shall be fav'd.
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2009
He truly had wonderful writing skills to make all of us love Gremlin the Sableye.

Before reading his story, I never imagined that I could even not dislike a dark Pokemon
Trifong Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2009  Student Digital Artist
indeed he has, bet you'd wish you had half of his skills:lol:

i agree, i slightly had the same thing with fire types.

what we both are looking forward to now is the arrival of Gremlin's mother, hope Foxx got something good to show us, mind you once he has you'll be drawing it non-stop.
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2009
Haha! Notice that I stopped progressing in "The Pokemon Opera Theatre"?? :P

You are looking forward to Gremlin's mother too?
Never knew you don't find Jynx repulsive

Haha...drawing non-stop...Oh I wish not, with all my projects, essays, assignments and final exams

But I can assure you that perhaps all my future Jynx drawings are for his story! XD
(Unless I made up my mind to continue with Pokemon Opera Theatre)
Trifong Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2009  Student Digital Artist
oh your hard at work then? how well do you think your doing? mind you the assignments im doing seems to annoy me sometimes,

yer i like jynxs too, my one is called Fiaza who's going to be featured in my fanfic as a Bartender of a pirate's coast (thats what im thinking right now)

yer all under "Foxx's callenge" heh, i'd love to see them, you may have some heat as well coz soon im gonna give it a shot on "Foxx's challenge" :plotting:
SeafoamIslander Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2009
Wow I never knew that there are so many others who actually like jynx.
It's nearly impossible in Asia to find another person that likes jynx, and those who do often study abroad in UK or USA.

Great! Then I can get to read new jynx fictions,
something that I never managed to do in 4 years.

lol, he might be so surprised with the overwhelming supply of fanworks of his story XDDDD

Yay! I'm glad to see this back. ^_^ Certainly one of the most memorable moments in my stories, eh? Splendid work! +1 to Favorites!
